The University Charter

Welcome to the Otakuversity campus! This document is our official “Student Handbook.” It lays out the ground rules for using our site, Otakuversity.com (“the site,” “we,” “us”). By reading our articles, dropping a comment, or otherwise participating in our community, you’re agreeing to these terms. Think of it as agreeing to the course syllabus before a semester of mind-blowing lectures.

1. Intellectual Property Rights

Unless otherwise indicated, the Site is our proprietary property and all source code, databases, functionality, software, website designs, audio, video, text, photographs, and graphics on the Site (collectively, the “Content”) and the trademarks, service marks, and logos contained therein (the “Marks”) are owned or controlled by us or licensed to us, and are protected by copyright and trademark laws.

Everything you see here—the articles, our images, even Professor Yui’s delightful notes—is our original work. We poured our passion (and a frankly concerning amount of caffeine) into creating it. You’re welcome to read, enjoy, and share links to our content far and wide. However, you are not welcome to steal, copy, or pass off our work as your own.

2. User Conduct

By using the Site, you agree not to use the Site for any unlawful purpose, or any purpose prohibited under this clause. You agree not to use the Site in any way that could damage the Site, the services, or the general business of Otakuversity.

You agree to:

  • Be Respectful: No harassment, hate speech, or personal attacks. It’s okay to disagree with a character analysis; it’s not okay to insult the person who wrote it.
  • Keep it Legal: Don’t post anything illegal, defamatory, or that infringes on someone else’s copyright.
  • No Spam: Don’t use our comments section to sell your wares or promote unrelated content.

Basically, don’t be the villain of the arc. We have a zero-tolerance policy for trolls.

3. User-Generated Content

You may be able to post content to the Site, including comments, text, images, and other material (“User Content”). You are solely responsible for your User Content. By posting User Content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, and worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, and display your User Content in connection with the Site.

When you post a comment, you’re giving us permission to display it on the site. You’re still the owner of your brilliant insights, but you’re letting us host them.

We reserve the right to remove any comment that violates our Code of Conduct, is off-topic, or just generally brings down the vibe of the classroom.

4. Termination of Use

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Site, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including, without limitation, if you breach the Terms.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Site is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis. We make no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the operation of the Site or the information, content, or materials included on the Site.

We are passionate fans and researchers, but we are not psychologists, doctors, or fortune-tellers. Our analyses are our interpretations, designed to be thought-provoking and entertaining. This is NOT a replacement for professional advice. The content is for educational and entertainment purposes only. Also, while we do our best to keep the site running perfectly, we can’t guarantee it will be available 24/7 without any bugs.

6. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall Otakuversity or its directors, employees, or agents be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages resulting from the use or inability to use the Site.

We are not liable if an article inspires you to spend three hours debating your friends, if a fan theory we post turns out to be wrong, or if the site is down for maintenance when you desperately need to prove a point. You use the site at your own risk.

7. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. We will do so by posting and drawing attention to the updated terms on the Site. Your decision to continue to visit and make use of the Site after such changes have been made constitutes your formal acceptance of the new Terms and Conditions.

If you have any questions about these Terms, please contact us.
