So, What Is This Place, Really?
Okay, let’s break character for a second.
You’ve landed on a page with a university theme, a full faculty roster, and a “curriculum” dedicated to anime. Your first question is probably, “What exactly is this?”
The short answer: Otakuversity is an entertainment blog. It’s not a real university, you can’t get a degree here, and our esteemed “President” isn’t actually a real hamster. (I know, I’m sad too.)
The real answer is a bit more personal.
A Creative Outlet Fueled by a Love for Anime
This whole thing started as a creative outlet for me, your friendly neighborhood Otaku T.A. I’ve always loved anime, but more than that, I love those moments where you’re staring at the ceiling and suddenly realize character’s entire psychological profile and want to apply it to your life.
I wanted to create a space to share those ideas. To treat anime with the same analytical fun that people apply to classic literature or film, but without the stuffy, academic gatekeeping. It began as a passion project, and now, I’ve got a whole university worth of ideas.
Why the University Theme?
So, if it’s not a real school, why do it this way?
Because the university theme is the perfect metaphor for what we’re doing here. This is a place for learning, for debate, and for a deeper appreciation of our favorite art form. It’s a fun, thematic way to frame our content and build a community of fellow “scholars.”
When you’re here, you’re a student. An article is a lecture. The comments section is a post-lecture seminar and debate club. It’s all part of the experience.
So I invite you to get into character, have fun with it, and enjoy the curriculum!
My Mission (The Real One)
My goal is simple: to create the most entertaining, insightful, and at times, a little educational, content about anime on the web. I want to give you the language to talk about the complex feelings these shows give us and to create a community where that kind of deep-dive discussion is the norm.
This is a place for anyone who believes anime is worthy of serious (and not-so-serious) discussion.
Thank you for enrolling. I’m excited to see you in class!
